# Primary Purpose
Operates sand blaster to profile surfaces of metal or hard composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust and dirt to prepare for paint.

Responsibilities Include
Set up and operate compressor/blast equipment and blast to proper specifications. Direct blast of abrasive laden compressed air over surface of all necessary parts. Pending location, may use gas or liquid. Continuously maintain sand blaster hose at 100 pounds of pressure.
Visually inspect quality of finished parts to ensure that the product meets specifications.
Perform any needed production worker functions when not sand blasting. (Refer to Production Worker job description for details.)
Distribute materials by operating forklift, bridge crane and/or pallet jack. Move parts to, in and out of sand blasting booth.
Refills sand pot from floor of sand blasting booth.
Pending location, may help maintain blast equipment.
Additional duties may be assigned, dependent upon location and product line.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
3
months experience and/or training (technical school) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to operate the air compressor and sand blaster in a safe and productive manner.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals written in English. This includes shop orders, transfer sheets and quality plans.
Ability to communicate verbally with co-workers in a productive manner.
Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
Ability to use tools in a safe and proper manner
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND REQUIRED TRAINING
The following certifications and training, if required, will be provided by the company:
Forklift Certificate
Bridge Crane Training
Pending plant location, Fall Protection Training
Pending plant location, Respirator Training and Fit-Testing
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
To successfully perform the essential function of this position, employees must have the ability to:
Frequently lift/move 25 pounds; continuously required to maintain sand blaster hose at 100 pounds of pressure (employee will use sand blaster a maximum of six hours).
Continuously stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms above shoulder height; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.
Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms at waist level and below the waist; and work in limited space.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is continuously exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high places, fumes or airborne particles and/or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
